Room to Read’s 20-Year Impact: 339 Library Buildings Constructed in Cambodia

Over the past two decades, Room to Read Cambodia (RRC) has made a significant impact on education by constructing 339 libraries across Cambodia. This milestone was announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on 9 April 2024.

In addition to the construction of libraries, RRC has established 2,111 school libraries and provided training to 9,000 teachers and librarians, as stated by the Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, the organisation has been instrumental in publishing 266 books in Khmer and distributing 5 million Khmer language books, along with 3 million English language books. These resources have directly benefitted more than 2.2 million students and facilitated life skills programs at the secondary level. Additionally, over 21,000 female students have received support, enabling them to continue their education.

Room to Read Cambodia has been a steadfast partner of the Ministry of Education for the past two decades, focusing on two core objectives: promoting literacy and advancing girls’ education for gender equality. Currently, Room to Read’s literacy program operates in 274 primary schools and 262 secondary schools, with a particular emphasis on girls’ education programs in nine provinces, including Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Prey Veng, Kampong Speu, Kampot, and Battambang.
