Phnom Penh Governor: City’s road drilling must be strictly inspected

The Governor Phnom Penh H.E Khuong Sreng has urged all relevant authorities to strictly check before allowing both government institutions and private companies to drill the road to insert underground networks which have caused damage to roads in the city.

In a meeting on the Reconstruction of the Underground Cable Tunnel in Phnom Penh on 26 May 2020, the governor urged the authorities and relevant officials, especially the 14 district governors, to pay extra attention to inspecting all the drilling or digging of underground networks.

In the past, some roads have been damaged by drilling or digging of underground networks by some government and private companies which have irresponsibly left the roads with mud, debris, holes, and extreme dust, causing complaints from citizens.

Even with permits, he urged authorities to inspect the sites themselves to ensure that the companies will reconstruct the road with proper standards and to ensure the road quality.

In addition, he requested the authorities to strictly check all sand trucks that left sand and dirt on the roads affecting the environment and aesthetics of the city. He said the authorities must stop them immediately if they are not responsible to clear the dirt out of the roads, especially on National Road 5.
