Phnom Penh Governor urges Japanese firms to invest in high-rise firefighting services

Phnom Penh Governor HE Khuong Sreng has urged Japanese firms to consider investing more in Phnom Penh, especially in the field of firefighting services for high-rise buildings.

HE Khuong Sreng said in the meeting with the Japan-Cambodia Association delegation on 3 February 3 that a proper firefighting system on high-rise buildings is what Phnom Penh lacks.

“We need to enhance the system in all aspects including technic, equipment, fire trucks and the expert team as fire accident in high-rise comes with high damages,” said HE Sreng.

In response to the request, Mr TAKAHASHI Fumiaki, president of the Japan-Cambodia Association and former Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, said that the association would try its best to assist Phnom Penh on that matter.

In October 2021, the Ministry of Interior issued a new Prakas to strengthen regulations on fire protection systems in high-rise buildings and building with basements, after months of discussions on the draft. (Read more)
