PM Introduces New Law Boosting Gas Safety in High-rise Buildings

PM Hun Manet has introduced a new law to regulate gas usage in high-rise buildings, aiming to enhance public safety. This announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of twin flyovers at the intersection of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. and National Road No. 2, at the border of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, on 17 June 2024.

The PM emphasised the increasing reliance on gas systems in high-rise buildings, alongside electricity, necessitating stringent safety measures, management protocols, and technical standards. He highlighted the risks posed by individuals purchasing gas cylinders for household use, which could lead to explosions, underscoring the importance of company oversight for gas system installations in residential areas.

PM Hun Manet directed relevant ministries and institutions to collaborate with the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to establish standardised systems for electricity, water, and gas, integrating them into comprehensive building safety policies.
