Preah Sihanouk Authorities Urge Wood Processing Plant to Prioritize Returning Thai Workers
In a recent move to support job creation for local residents, the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Authorities have requested that the owner of a nearly USD 5 million wood processing plant prioritize hiring workers who have recently returned from Thailand.
This appeal was made by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Investment Sub-Committee during a site inspection of the proposed plant, which will process acacia and oil palm. The inspection took place on June 27, 2025, and was led by Mr. Long Dimanche, the Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province and Deputy Chairman of the Provincial Investment Sub-Committee.
With a total investment of approximately USD 4.69 million, the project is seen as a significant opportunity for economic growth in the region. During the inspection, Deputy Governor Dimanche emphasized the importance of collaboration between investors and relevant authorities to meet legal requirements while also facilitating the necessary procedures within the Provincial Investment Sub-Committee’s jurisdiction to expedite permit approvals.
Moreover, the Deputy Governor urged investors to adhere to the guidelines set by specialized departments and to respect Cambodia’s statutory regulations. He highlighted the critical need to prioritize employment for local residents, particularly those returning from overseas work in Thailand, as a means to support the community’s recovery and growth.
The emphasis on local hiring reflects the ongoing efforts by the Cambodian government to reintegrate returning workers and boost the regional economy through sustainable development initiatives.
