Progress on Cambodia-Laos Bridge Project unclear

Progress on plans to a bridge across the Tonle Sap linking Cambodia to Laos remains unclear despite an agreement between the two governments signed at the end of 2018, according to Preah Vihear provincial governor H.E. Un Chanda.

“At the moment, we [Preah Vihear Province] have yet to receive any details of the project from the government regarding the details, budgets, or the construction timeline. This is currently just a project that both governments have agreed to do,” H.E. Chanda told Construction & Property Magazine.

The project is set to be built in Kampong Sralau commune, Chhaeb district, Preah Vihear province, which borders Champasak province in Laos. The agreement on the construction of this bridge was signed between Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Lao Prime Minister during the signing of four key documents in December 2018.

As reported in Fresh News, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the people on the border should be happy … as besides the electricity purchasing agreement, we also agreed on building a bridge across the river connecting Preah Vihear and Champasak province.

If the project progresses as planned, the bridge will be very beneficial for the development of both Preah Vihear and Champasak provinces, as it can open up the cross-boundary economic activities for the people of both countries.
