Progress Report on National Road No. 7 Expansion Project

The ambitious project to expand National Road No. 7 from Skun to Kampong Cham has made significant strides, currently standing at 66% completion. This vital infrastructure initiative, funded through a concessional loan from the People’s Republic of China, marks a historic collaboration between the Royal Government of Cambodia and its Chinese counterpart, aimed at enhancing connectivity for the people of Kampong Cham Province.

During a recent site visit on July 2, 2025, Mr. Lim Sidenin, Secretary of State and Project Director at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, confirmed that as of the end of August, the project has reached an impressive 65.38% progress. This expansion is projected to not only enhance transportation efficiency but also stimulate regional economic activities, bringing numerous benefits to local communities.

Key discussions during the visit also included plans for planting trees along the route, constructing a comprehensive water drainage system, and establishing a weighing station for vehicles to manage overloading effectively.

The project was officially inaugurated in January 2023, with construction focusing on the segment from the Cheung Prey district roundabout to the provincial capital of Kampong Cham, representing an investment of USD 117 million. With its continued development, the expanded National Road No. 7 is poised to make a transformative impact on the region’s infrastructure and economy.
