Renovations on National Road 3 begin

Renovations on National Road No.3 have begun, according to H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

During a visit to follow up on the construction project along National Roads 41, 3 and 33, H.E Sun Chanthol said construction of the Chom Chao-BekKoos junction along National Road 3 has commenced. This junction will be expanded to dual carriageway with a total width of 24.5 metres.

Meanwhile, the renovation project of National Road 3 is divided into two parts, the Chom Chao-BekKoos junction and the BekKoos junction-Kampot and to Veal Rinh, which is under the responsibility of the Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Corporation Ltd. The Chao-Bek Koos junction will be upgraded from a DBST road to an asphalt concrete (AC) road but will remain two lanes.

This project commenced under the Royal Government’s Road Asset Management Project II (RAMP II) and the upgrades of National Road 3 are being undertaken through a US$215 million concessional loan from China. (Read more )

Smoothly connecting the capital to Kampot Province is an important priroity as the province is the main supplier of salt for the country as well as a place that is rich in resources for cement factories. It will also soon be home to a large-scale port for cargo and cruise liners.
