Renowned Cambodia Investor Still Optimistic on Construction Sector Prospects

Despites a decrease in investment for construction sector in 2018, renowned Cambodia investors remain optimistic about the construction and real estate sectors in Cambodia.

At the recent construction exhibition organised by the Cambodia Constructors Association (CCA) Neak Oknha Pung Keav Se, Chairman of Canadia Bank and Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), expressed his optimism about the sectors’ prospects.

“I am still optimistic about construction investment; nowadays we are not only developed in construction alone,” he said.“The figures shown by the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) are mostly for housing projects and so on” he explained.

“If the figures from the Ministry include them [infrastructure construction and others] investment will be more”, he said, while adding that infrastructure investment will increase.

Meanwhile, regarding the decrease in the construction investment in 2018 of which for the first 10 months Cambodia received investment of about only US$4 billion only, Neak Oknha Pung Keav Se said that this normal for the economic to change.

“At this speed, it [construction investment] could reach more than US$6 billion … it may be lesser than last year by a few hundred million, but this is not a big deal because economic needs allow for adjustment, up and down…this is usual for an economy” he emphasised.
