Cambodian Senate Approves Landmark Air Transport Law to Boost Aviation Sector

In a significant move to bolster Cambodia’s aviation industry, the Senate has unanimously approved the draft law on international air transport. The approval, achieved with 56 out of 56 votes during the extraordinary session of the Senate of the 5th legislature, was held under the chairmanship of Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 31 July 2024.

The newly approved law aims to establish a robust legal framework to support the development of Cambodia’s aviation sector, thereby enhancing economic growth through tourism, trade, and security. The initiative aligns with the Pentagon strategy, spearheaded by the Secretariat of Civil Aviation, which focuses on diversifying the economy, increasing competitiveness, promoting connectivity, and optimizing logistics, energy, water, and digital infrastructure.

HE Mao Havannal, Minister in charge of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, highlighted that the law’s adoption is a forward-looking investment, crucial for the strategic advancement of Cambodia’s aviation industry. This legislation is expected to play a pivotal role in reinforcing the country’s position in the global aviation market.
