South Africa Aims to Boost Trade with Cambodia Through Agricultural Imports

In a significant step towards enhancing economic ties, the South African Ambassador to Cambodia, Darkey Ephriam Africa, announced plans to import a range of agricultural products into the Cambodian market, including apples, coconuts, sari, and blueberries. This announcement was made during a meeting with His Excellency Ratcha Saravuth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce.

During the meeting, Ambassador Africa emphasized the importance of promoting trade and economic relations between South Africa and Cambodia. He proposed the establishment of a memorandum of understanding aimed at facilitating the exchange of goods, highlighting the export of these agricultural products as a key focus.

Secretary of State Saravuth expressed his support for the proposals, suggesting that both nations explore opportunities for private sector collaboration through business meetings and trade fairs. A particular emphasis was placed on rice, a vital commodity for South Africa, as a potential area for increased trade.

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce urged the South African Embassy to assist in showcasing Cambodia’s investment potential to South African investors and business leaders. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to maximize trade benefits from existing regional and bilateral free trade agreements, which are crucial for expanding bilateral trade relations.

As both countries work toward strengthening their economic partnership, these efforts reflect a mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and investment opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous future.
