Cambodia Renames Third Ring Road to “Xi Jinping Boulevard” in Honour of Strengthened Ties with China

In a significant move to honour the enduring partnership between Cambodia and China, the “Third Ring Road” has been officially renamed “Xi Jinping Boulevard”. This key infrastructure, connecting NR No. 1 to NR No. 4 and spanning nearly 53 kilometres, was inaugurated in a ceremony presided over by Samdech Hun Manet and HE Wang Wentian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, on 28 May 2024.

The Third Ring Road, which originally opened in January 2019, traverses approximately 38 kilometres of Kandal province and 15 kilometres of Phnom Penh. Starting at NR No. 4 at km 14 + 105 in Chompou Voan village, Sangkat Choam Chao 3, Khan Por Sen Chey, Phnom Penh, it stretches to Sdao Kanleang village in Kien Svay district, Kandal province, ending at NR No. 1 at km 24 + 840. The road interconnects with several major routes, including NRs No. 5, No. 6, No. 3, and No. 2, crossing significant landmarks such as the Bassac River and Koh Anlong Chen.

With widths of up to 27 metres in urban areas and 25 metres on the outskirts, the construction of this pivotal road was financed by a loan of approximately US$273 million from the People’s Republic of China. (Read more)
