The first phase of deep-sea port construction to Commence on May 1

Cambodia’s first deep-sea port construction is set to begin on May 1, marking a significant milestone in the country’s water transportation and logistic infrastructure. According to HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, the first phase of the 14.5-meter deep-water container port in Sihanoukville will commence construction under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

During the inauguration ceremony of the Samrong Andet Branch, HE Sun Chanthol confirmed that the deep-sea port of Sihanoukville will be able to accommodate large ships and transport goods from Cambodia to the United States and Europe without passing through the ports of neighboring countries such as Singapore or Vietnam.

The expansion project will be built using a loan from Japan, and the second and third phases will have water depths of 16.5 meters and 17.5 meters, respectively.

This deep-sea port will benefit Cambodia’s economy, as it will provide a more efficient route for the transportation of goods, saving time and freight costs. The commencement of the construction marks a significant step forward in Cambodia’s infrastructure development and economic growth.
