MPWT mulls building railway connecting Phnom Penh to Kien Svay Port

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) will soon conduct feasibility in building a new railway system connecting to the Phnom Penh downtown to the newly-established port in Kien Svay district.

The project comes at a time when the number of containers passing through the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port has significantly increased.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol said during the inauguration ceremony of the LM17 container port on Monday 20 September that this new route can be either built using the exiting railway or making a whole new system.

The decision and further plan of this project will be made later after the study is completed.

Besides, HE Sun Chanthol asked officials to check the possibility of repairing the railway connecting Phnom Penh city center to Kilometer 6 areas in Russei Keo district, which is also a terminal port.
