Battambang Province Unveils US$ 6M Landfill to Boost Sanitation Development

Battambang has officially inaugurated a US$ 6,283.747 million landfill project in a bid to improve the sanitation development of the area. The handover ceremony took place on 20 March, 2023, as the project was completed after 12 months of construction.

The landfill, located in Poi Svay village, Ta Kream commune, Banan district, Battambang province, covers a total area of 20.80 hectares and was constructed by Heng Sambath Import Export, Transport, and Construction in collaboration with RAMBOLL DANMARKA and ORIENTAL CONSULTANT GLOBAL CO., LTD. SCE and TANCONS (CAMBODIA) CO., LTD.

The project comprises various infrastructures, such as access roads, landfills, treatment pits, administrative and residential buildings, waste sorting buildings, supply buildings, hazardous waste storage buildings, guard posts, workshops, car parks, car washes, weighing stations, electrical networks, fences, and tree plantations.

The project’s first phase will cover a 2.94-hectare pit with a storage capacity of 313,703 cubic meters for ten years (2022-2032) to provide environmental sanitation services to around 60% of the 126,000 people in Battambang province and nearby districts.

This landfill project is under the project to improve the management of the urban environment around the Tonle Sap Lake, the second phase, using a loan from the Asian Development Bank.

Before this project, the inauguration of the first phase of the Kampong Chhnang and Pursat municipal landfills of the Tonle Sap Lake Environmental Management Improvement Project has recently taken place. (Read more)
