Renovation on NR58 complete, scheduled to open by late February

The renovation on National Road 58 from Banteay Meanchey to Oddar Meanchey has been completed and will be officially inaugurated on 26 February 2020.

According to a report from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the inauguration ceremony will be presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

The renovation project has a total length of 174km, which includes 165km of the main road and 8km of sub-roads. This road connects the Plong intersection in Pa-ong village, Kaunkriel commune, Samrong town of Uddar Meanchey to the National Road 5 in Phsar Kandal village, Poipet town of Banteay Meanchey.

This project has been implemented with a Chinese concession loan together with a Cambodian government budget allocation of approximately US$122 million. (Read More)

According to the same source, ground was broken on the project in June 2015 and constructed by Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd with the technical supervision of Guangzhou Wanna Construction Supervision Co., Ltd.

National Road 58 plays a vital role in facilitating the transportation on the northwest side of the country, in particular easing the connectivity between Cambodia and Thailand.
