Government Comparing Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Studies by Japan and China

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport is still considering and comparing the studies of Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway project by both China and Japan, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s spokesman HE Vasim Sorya last week.

According to him, China Railway International Group Co., Ltd presented three designs for construction of this expressway in September. (Read more)

Some time ago, JICA also completed their study of the project. But due to the high cost of the project, the government sought an alternative.

“We also have the study by Japan, so we are comparing. We are silent because it is the technical issue that cannot be spoken about,” said HE Sorya.

Once the government approves the project, the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway would be the second expressway in Cambodia after the under-construction Phnom Penh-Expressway.

The project is expected to cost approximately over US$2 billion and would have a total length of 135km crossing through Kandal, Prey Veng, and Svay Rieng provinces before reaching the Bavet border gate, sharing a border with Vietnam.
