50 Chinese Investors Explore Lucrative Prospects in Kampong Speu’s Five Key Sectors

Fifty investors from Zhejiang province, China, are actively exploring investment opportunities in Kampong Speu, focusing on the five key sectors of agriculture, agro-industry, mining and energy, and industry. This interest was announced on the official Facebook page of Kampong Speu Provincial Administration on 16 July 2024.

According to HE Cheam Chansophoan, Governor of Kampong Speu Province, the Chinese investors recently met with the provincial administration to discuss potential investments. Representing the Chinese investors, Oknha Chim Kheang emphasised the group’s intention to leverage Kampong Speu’s favourable geography and robust transportation infrastructure to facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural products to ports and other destinations. The investors have also requested support from the government of Cambodia, particularly the Kampong Speu administration, to ensure the availability of a skilled workforce to support their ventures.

Kampong Speu is home to over 400 factories employing more than 160,000 workers in the garment, footwear, consumer goods, and travel industries. Notably, over 90% of these factories are backed by Chinese investors.

In the first half of 2024, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 190 new projects, including production expansions and new investments, totalling approximately US$3.2 billion. Chinese investors accounted for 42.64% of this investment capital, with Kampong Speu alone hosting 43 of these projects, according to a CDC report on 5 July 2024. (Read more)
