Siem Reap ring road renovation project kicks off

The Siem Reap ring road renovation project saw ground officially broken on 15 August, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

The ground-breaking ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol, and attended by many other relevant officials and locals.

The project is for the rehabilitation of the 2,230-metre-long road in Sangkat Slor Kram of Siem Reap city, which is a part of the whole15 kilometres of the Siem Reap ring road.

The renovation will include road expansion, a pavement with two layers of DBST, as well as the installation of a drainage system.

Undertaken by the Siem Reap Department of Public Works, the project will use a total budget of approximately US$1 million in state funds.

During the ground-breaking ceremony, H.E. Sun Chanthol pledged that the ministry will keep looking for budget to complete the renovation of the whole ring road.

“The Siem Reap ring road plays a vital role in facilitating transportation and especially reducing traffic congestion in the city. The renovation this time is just a small part of the whole ring road. We will keep doing our best to complete 100 percent of the renovation as soon as possible,” said H.E. Sun Chantol.

Regarding the road infrastructure, the Cambodian government is also currently studying the feasibility of a Phnom Penh-Siem Reap expressway as well. Currently, there are two companies who are working with the Ministry regarding this project. (Read More)

If the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap Expressway is built, it will be the second following the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway. This US$2 billion expressway is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed by 2023. (Read More)
