Government receives US$20 million loan from China to expand Phnom Penh port

The government has received a US$20 million loan from China to expand the Phnom Penh port, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol.

H.E. Sun Chanthol made the announcement during a press conference on the progress and future direction of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport at the Council of Ministers on 21 February.

“The project will be divided into four phases. We have already received a $20 million loan from China and that’s the first phase,” said H.E. Chanthol.

“The second step is to expand the space for containers, and we have done that, too. The third step is to study a location for another port, and that is also a loan from China. For the fourth phase, we will ask for the loan from China,” he added.
