PM reallocates US$5-million leftover budget from Sihanoukville to renovate Siem Reap River sidewalk

The US$5 million remaining budget from the 34-road restoration project in Sihanoukville will be used to renovate 9km of sidewalk along Siem Reap River, in addition to the 38-road construction project.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen decided to reallocate this budget during the ground-breaking ceremony of the 38-road renovation project in Siem Reap on 30 November. (Read more)

“I previously reallocated the US$5 million leftover budget from the 34-road construction in Sihanoukville to the national budget. However, now I transfer it directly to Siem Reap to rehabilitate both sides of the Siem Reap River,” said PM Hun Sen.

“Thus, the renovation will be a package, including roads, sewers, water networks, security cameras, and so on. Siem Reap will become a strong tourism city, worthy of the status of the former capital of the Khmer Empire,” he added.

He added that after the recovery of COVID-19, in 2022 the government will possibly organise an Angkor Songkran festival again to boost tourism.
