Australia Provides US$900,000 Grant for Cambodia’s Off Electrification Project

The Australian government has provided grant aid of US$900,000 to Cambodia for the development of an off-grid electrification project.

The grant agreement was signed by Secretary of State of Ministry of Mines and Energy HE Ty Norin and Australian Charge d’Affaires Luke Arnold on 9 June.

The grant is 1.2 million Australian Dollars (approximately $920,000) and will be used for the implementation of the project for two years starting from the signing date onward.

HE Ty Norin said on Thursday that Australia’s grant is important for contributing with the government to electrifying villages nationwide.

“The off-grid electrification project focuses on equipping solar PV to generate power for use by each household in remote areas,” he said.

According to HE Ty Norin, to date, the mission to electrify all villages nationwide has already covered 97% of the total 14,168 villages.
