Cambodia and Russia are planning to conclude a draft agreement on the construction of a Nuclear Research and Technology Centre located at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, according to a press release by the Royal Academy of Cambodia on 23 August.

The Department of Science and Technology of the National Council for Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Environment hosted a meeting on 23 August to review the draft agreement related to the article on the shipments of nuclear equipment for the construction of the centre and articles related to tax exception for the equipment and the construction.

On 28 August, 2018, the General Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development will hold a meeting with Russia’s Rosatom team to review and finalise the draft agreement which will be held at the Ministry of Environment (MoE).

In September 2017, Cambodia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes with Russia which focuses on education and training, fundamental and applied research, and the use of irradiation technologies in manufacturing, medicine, agriculture, and environmental protection.
