GOV’t Initiates Temporary Steel Bridge Project to Enhance Connectivity between Chak Angre and Prek Pra

The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a temporary steel bridge, linking the Chak Angre and Prek Pra areas. This strategic move aims to facilitate seamless movement for residents while awaiting the government’s loan approval from China for the construction of a permanent bridge across the Bassac River.

The announcement was made by Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, during the momentous inauguration ceremony of the Russey Keo Bridge and Russey Keo Overpass on 31st May.

Acknowledging the pressing need for enhanced connectivity, PM Hun Sen highlighted Phnom Penh’s requirement for three additional bridges, including the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge, the bridge connecting the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, and the Bassac River Bridge linking Prek Pra to Chak Angre.

In a significant development, construction on two of the three bridges, namely the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge and the bridge connecting the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, is poised to commence in the near future, catapulting Phnom Penh’s infrastructure landscape to new heights.

“Regarding the vital Bassac River Bridge, which is set to connect Prek Pra and Chak Angre, negotiations for a concessional loan from China are currently underway. The government is actively seeking this financial support to expedite the construction of this essential bridge, further reinforcing Phnom Penh’s commitment to bolstering its transportation network,” added the PM.

This temporary solution will bridge communities and serve as a vital lifeline for residents until the permanent Bassac River Bridge comes to fruition. Phnom Penh’s future shines brightly as it embarks on a transformative journey towards modern infrastructure and seamless mobility.
