Gov’t Allocates US$60 Million for New Siem Reap Airport Access Road Expansion

In a strategic move to enhance connectivity and accommodate the growing demands of Siem Reap’s evolving infrastructure, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet announced a substantial investment of US$60 million in a road improvement project. The endeavor focuses on expanding the route from the newly inaugurated Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to Siem Reap City, covering a span of approximately 20 kilometers.

Speaking at the official airport inauguration on 16 November, Samdech Hun Manet highlighted the road improvement initiative as an integral part of the broader infrastructure connection project outlined by the government.

“The government has already planned. The first project involves expanding National Road No. 6 from the intersection point of the airport highway and National Road No. 6 to the downtown area of Siem Reap province, covering nearly 20km with a budget of US$60 million,” he stated.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the road enhancement project is scheduled to commence next year, featuring an upgrade from two lanes to four lanes, and in certain sections, six lanes. This expansion aims to accommodate the increasing traffic demands and bolster the country’s accessibility.

Furthermore, Samdech Hun Manet disclosed details about a second project under consideration. The government is in discussions with the concessionaire of the new Siem Reap Airport to potentially construct a monorail train connecting the airport to Siem Reap city.

This dual-pronged approach underscores the government’s commitment to not only address the immediate transportation needs but also pave the way for a more dynamic and seamlessly connected Siem Reap.
