Cambodia Launches US$3.4m National Single Window System to Propel Economic Growth

In a strategic move to enhance trade efficiency and stimulate national economic growth, the Cambodian government has officially launched the National Single Window system, an investment exceeding US$3.4 million. Announced by Prime Minister Hun Manet on 7 May 2024, the innovative platform is designed to streamline the export and import processes, marking a significant leap in Cambodia’s trade facilitation efforts.

The National Single Window system, integrating seamlessly with existing platforms such as E-customs, ASYCUDA, and the Pre-Arrival Manifest System, aims to simplify the bureaucratic process for exporters and importers. By enabling the simultaneous application for licenses, permits, certificates, and other essential documents across all relevant ministries, the system promises a more efficient customs clearance procedure. Moreover, its connectivity with the ASEAN Single Window system facilitates the electronic exchange of critical trade documents, including certificates of origin and customs clearance data, with other ASEAN member countries.

Spanning seven years from 2018 to 2024, the development of the National Single Window system was segmented into three phases, cumulatively budgeted at US$3.4 million. During the unveiling ceremony, His Excellency Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the system.

For the public sector, it ensures enhanced cooperation between ministries and institutions, providing accurate and timely data for risk assessment and expediting export and import procedures.

Meanwhile, the private sector stands to gain significantly from reduced procedural times and costs, facilitating smoother transactions and interactions with competent ministries.

The National Single Window system represents a pivotal step towards achieving operational excellence in Cambodia’s trade practices, promising a brighter economic future.
