Significant Boost in Phnom Penh’s Telecommunication Infrastructure with 74 New Antenna Towers

To enhance telephone service quality, 74 new antenna towers have been installed, and 157 antenna stations are now operational in Phnom Penh, as announced on 7 May 2024 during a progress review meeting led by HE Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (MOPT).

During the meeting, it was detailed that the special task force in Boreys had successfully erected 74 “common antenna towers,” each supporting antenna station for up to three operators. Currently, 157 antenna stations are operational in Phnom Penh, distributed among 37 Cellcard stations, 58 Metfone stations, and 62 Smart stations, with plans for further expansion to enhance telecommunication services.

Across Phnom Penh’s 14 districts, a total of 298 “joint antenna towers” have been constructed, housing 320 antenna stations, including 25 Cellcard stations, 103 Metfone stations, and 192 Smart stations. Operators are continuing to install additional antenna stations as per their development plans.

Furthermore, the MOPT instructed the working group to improve service quality by ending exclusive internet service rights for any operator in Phnom Penh. Cooperation from boreys and location owners was also requested to support these efforts.
