Gov’t Inaugurates US$1m Tourist Reception Facility at Koh Thmor X16 Historical Site

The Cambodian government inaugurated a new reception and accommodation facility worth over US$1 million at the Techo Koh Thmor X16 Military Historical Site. The ceremony was presided over by HE General Sao Sokha, Deputy Commander of the Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Cambodian Gendarmerie, along with HE Dr Cheam Chansophoan, Governor of Tbong Khmum Province, and several other stakeholders on 19 June 2024.

HE Sao Sokha highlighted the significance of the Techo Koh Thmor X16 site, noting its historical importance as the battleground where Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his loyal comrades fought to liberate the nation from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot 47 years ago.

The Techo Koh Thmor X16 Military Historical Area has seen significant development, with numerous structures already completed, including the Statue of King Kork Thlok, the Great Stupa housing the remains of fallen warriors, the Techo Koh Thmor Friendship Museum, the Forum Hall, Sdech Neak Moha Chey pond, a helicopter landing site, a football field, landscaped areas with trees and flowers, illuminated roads, and rubber-paved roads, among other infrastructure.

General Sao Sokha emphasised that while the new reception and accommodation building marks a major milestone, the development of this paramount historical site is ongoing.

This strategic investment aims to enhance the site’s appeal as a tourist destination, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s rich history and the sacrifices made during the nation’s liberation struggle.
