Progress Report: Tonle Bassac Bridge Nears 12% Completion

The bridge construction project over the Bassac River, connecting Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra, stands at 11.63% completion, with 36 out of 156 pillars already concreted, six out of 20 template exhibits installed, and several other crucial tasks underway, according to Mr. Phorn Rim, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport reported on 27 June 2024.

Mr. Phorn Rim highlighted the significant progress, noting that the construction team is diligently working to meet the planned milestones. He mentioned that HE Peng Po, Minister of Public Works and Transport, continuously encourages the construction team to maintain their efforts and achieve the set targets.

The bridge project, which commenced on 19 February 2024, under the auspices of Samdech Hun Manet and HE Wang Vinthean, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, spans a total length of 1,650 metres. (Read more)

This includes an 845.70-metre-long section, 27 metres wide, and another 804.30-metre-long section, also 27 metres wide. The bridge is being constructed by Shanghai Construction Company, with Guangzhou Van An as the project consultant. The total investment of US$60.2 million comes from a concessional loan provided by the Chinese government, alongside contributions from the Royal Government of Cambodia to address impacts such as demining, unexploded ordnance, and other taxes.

The concerted efforts of the construction team, along with international cooperation, underscore the project’s importance in the broader context of national development.
