Cambodia Welcomes Over 380,000 Chinese Tourists in H1 2024, Ranks Third After Thailand & Vietnam

Cambodia welcomed 389,360 Chinese tourists in the first half of 2024, marking a significant 45.2% increase from the 268,130 visitors recorded in the same period last year. Chinese tourists accounted for 12.3% of Cambodia’s total foreign visitors, which numbered approximately 3.16 million. This surge places China as the third largest source of tourists to Cambodia, following Thailand and Vietnam. Report published by Xinhua, 23 July 2024.

According to the same source, Cambodian tourism officials are optimistic about this growth trend. HE Top Sopheak, spokesman and Secretary of State for the Ministry of Tourism, emphasised the economic benefits Chinese tourists bring, including contributions to poverty reduction and overall economic development.

The newly opened Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, funded by Chinese investment, is expected to further enhance this upward trend. The Secretary of State expressed confidence that this new infrastructure will attract even more Chinese tourists, bolstering Cambodia’s tourism sector and economy. (Read more)
