The Gov’t Establishes Special Task Force to Expedite Tax Audits

In a decisive move to enhance the business and investment environment, the Cambodian government has established a special tax audit unit under the General Department of Taxation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This unit aims to expedite the resolution of tax audit issues and ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. The decision was formalised through a sub-decree on 16 July 2024.

1. Manage and conduct tax audits for tax officers and enterprise taxpayers within its jurisdiction, adhering to existing laws and regulations.
2. Verify documents and perform risk analysis for comprehensive one-time audits, avoiding repetitive or limited audits of enterprises within its jurisdiction.
3. Prepare an annual special tax audit plan based on the manual for risk identification of enterprises within its jurisdiction.
4. Conduct audits upon request from enterprises within its jurisdiction.
5. Provide enterprises with information regarding the reasons for their selection for a tax audit.
6. Generate regular reports on audit activities.
7. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director General of the General Department of Taxation.

The unit will be led by a Chairman with the same rank as the Director of the Department, supported by several Vice-Chairmen with the rank of Deputy Director. This structure is stipulated in the legal documents accompanying the sub-decree.
