Chinese Firm Explores Investment in Cambodian Fresh Fruit Processing Plant

DOMI Biotechnology Co., Ltd. from China is exploring the possibility of establishing a fresh fruit processing plant in Cambodia, with a focus on durians and coconuts. This development follows a high-level meeting on 12 August 2024 between HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, and Mr. Wan Yanhu, President of DOMI Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

The company, which currently operates in Thailand and exports products to China, the United States, Australia, the Middle East, and Italy, sees Cambodia as a promising location for expanding its operations. Chinese investments have significantly grown in Cambodia, with China representing about 53% of the total investment capital in the first eight months of 2024.

Secretary General Chea Vuthy expressed strong support for DOMI Biotechnology’s investment proposal, urging the company to enhance local value by focusing on the processing of fresh fruits, particularly coconuts.

Cambodia’s expanding market for agricultural products, coupled with its strategic location, makes it an attractive destination for foreign investors looking to capitalize on the growing demand for processed fruits in both regional and international markets.
