Siem Reap Angkor Airport Investor Plans Major Investment in Renewable Energy Zone

Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI) has announced plans to invest in a special energy zone aimed at advancing Cambodia’s renewable energy sector.

The project, in collaboration with Chinese firm Energy China YNPD, will include solar, wind, biomass, and power storage solutions. Mr. Wei Lu, Chairman of AIAI, discussed the initiative during a meeting with HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, on 4 September 2024.

Mr. Wei Lu outlined that the special energy zone will contribute significantly to the country’s green energy capacity, and discussions with relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Mines and Energy, have already been encouraged by HE Chea Vuthy.

This energy zone is part of a larger development vision by AIAI, which also plans to invest in (1) solar energy, (2) tourism, and (3) agriculture projects near Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. (Read more)

Since opening nearly a year ago, the airport has welcomed around 900,000 passengers and is projected to reach 1.3 million by October, with an expected 1.5 million by the end of 2024. The economic zone near the airport will complement this growth by expanding infrastructure and energy solutions.
