Cambodia Approves 28 New Projects in September, Attracting USD 443m Investment

Cambodia greenlighted 28 new investment projects in September 2024, worth approximately USD 443 million, creating around 25,000 jobs across various industries. This impressive investment surge includes 26 new projects and two production expansions, positioning Cambodia as an attractive hub for both local and international investors. The Council for the Development of Cambodia confirmed the details in its press release dated 7 October 2024.

The investment destinations include eight projects in Sihanoukville, seven in Svay Rieng, four in Koh Kong, three in Phnom Penh, two each in Takeo and Pursat, and one each in Kampong Speu and Kandal. Chinese investments made up 38.23% of the total capital, while domestic investments contributed 32.92%, further highlighting the country’s robust industrial growth.

Outside the Special Economic Zone (SEZ):

  1. A garment factory expansion project in Phnom Penh with an additional investment of USD 12.5 million led to the creation of 2,505 new jobs.

Within the Special Economic Zones (SEZ):

  1. Pursat Special Economic Zone: A project with an investment of approximately USD 70 million, generating 708 jobs.
  2. Fungfu International Special Economic Zone, Svay Rieng Province: A development project with an investment of USD 55 million, creating 251 new jobs.
  3. Pursat Special Economic Zone: Another investment project, contributing over USD 38 million in capital, resulting in 8,918 jobs.
  4. Sovannaphum Special Economic Zone: A factory for processing dairy products, non-alcoholic beverages, and food, with an investment exceeding USD 37 million, creating 58 jobs.
  5. Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone: A power line and cable manufacturing facility requiring USD 25 million in investment, creating 1,188 jobs.
  6. Manhattan Special Economic Zone: An aluminum processing plant with an investment of over USD 20 million, adding 684 new jobs.
