PM Cancels Land-Clearing Requests to Enforce Transparent Land Registration

PM Samdech Hun Manet has canceled all pending land-clearing requests in a move to prioritize transparent land registration and curb fraudulent practices. Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration of the 70th Brigade on 15 October 2024, the PM announced the decision, emphasising that land must be registered appropriately before any clearance activities can commence.

During the event, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that the recent requests sought to clear land within national park areas, where inspections revealed that local residents were unaware of the specific land locations, and no impoverished families were found in the targeted regions.

Two requests were recently submitted for 300 families to clear between 1,000 and 2,000 hectares of land. However, these were promptly canceled after His Excellency Say Sam Al confirmed the absence of poor families and verified that the entire area in question fell within protected national park boundaries.

The PM stressed the government’s commitment to establishing clear land measurement protocols for both state and private properties, ensuring that future requests undergo thorough verification. He warned that any attempt to bypass these newly established procedures would result in legal repercussions.

To further support land access, the government intends to implement a straightforward measurement mechanism, allowing identification of state-owned versus privately-owned land and ensuring fair allocation for those without property.
