Chinese Firm Expands Investment with New Cashew Processing Plant in Cambodia

Shandong (Cambodia) Economic and Technological Development Zone, a major Chinese agricultural firm, has announced a substantial capital increase to establish a new cashew processing plant in Cambodia, further advancing its agricultural production footprint.

This decision was revealed during a meeting on 6 November 2024 between Cambodian PM HE Hun Manet and Mr. Wu Yu Jie, President of the Shandong Economic and Technological Development Zone, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China.

Mr. Wu shared details of Shandong’s investment journey in Cambodia, which began in 2012 with a focus on cassava and cashew cultivation. In a strategic expansion, the company plans to construct a cashew processing facility to bolster its capabilities and add value to Cambodia’s agricultural output.

PM Hun Manet welcomed this initiative and strongly supported establishing a processing plant to advance the direct export of cashew products from Cambodia to China and beyond.

The PM further underscored the Cambodian government’s commitment to fostering agricultural investment, stressing the potential economic benefits that agro-industrial development holds for the country.

He encouraged the company to cooperate closely with relevant Cambodian authorities, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Council for the Development of Cambodia, to explore enhanced incentives for expanding their operations.

This development signifies a strategic step forward in strengthening Cambodia’s agricultural processing sector and improving the export potential of local cashew products in international markets.
