Local Pursat Firm Transforms Waste into Organic Fertiliser to Boost Agricultural & Environmental Impact

Save the Lives (Cambodia) Co. Ltd., based in Pursat province, is revolutionizing waste management by converting collected garbage into organic fertilizer.

Licensed to clean, collect, transport, and store solid waste across all seven communes of Pursat City since mid-April 2024, the company started producing natural organic fertilizer under the brand “Sovannaphum” in June 2024.

Within just four months, they successfully processed waste into 450 tons of organic fertilizer to enhance soil quality and promote healthy yields in rice, vegetable, flower, and fruit cultivation, according to Mr. Sy Len, Chairman of Save the Lives (Cambodia).

HE Khvay Atitya, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, recently led an inspection of the company’s production line, commending the firm for its contributions to socio-economic development and environmental sustainability.

“The recycling of waste into valuable products, such as organic fertilizers, is a sustainable business model that contributes to a greener future for Cambodia,” he stated, underscoring the company’s role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to  HE Khvay Atitya, Cambodia generates nearly 4 million tons of waste annually, equating to over 10,000 tons annually across the country. In Phnom Penh alone, 3,000 to 5,000 tons of waste are produced daily, with food waste accounting for 60%, plastic bags for 20%, and the rest comprising rubber and paper waste.
