What has the Border Ring Road Construction Project Achieved Two Months after Construction Started?

The project to build the border ring road, funded by nearly USD 27 million from the Border Infrastructure Fund, has made significant progress since the construction site opened on 4 November 2024.  Here are some key achievements of this historic project for Cambodia:

Demining Operations:

The team successfully cleared 1,462,500 square meters of unexploded ordnance, with 1,225,000 square meters in Mondulkiri province and 237,500 square meters in Ratanakkiri province. During the search for mines, the team discovered 23 rounds of ammunition, including six bombs or cluster munitions. The Engineering Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) works diligently to ensure the area’s safety.

Clearance Work:

• A road with a width of 5 meters has been cleared, reaching a total length of 58.5 kilometers (49 kilometers in Mondulkiri and 9.5 kilometers in Ratanakkiri).
• A 20-meter-wide road has been cleared for 36 kilometers (27.9 kilometers in Mondulkiri and 8.7 kilometers in Ratanakkiri) to identify the road axis by clearing valleys and lowlands.
• Canal construction has reached 30.20 kilometers (20.60 kilometers in Mondulkiri and 7.6 kilometers in Ratanakkiri).
• The construction of the road and mountain walls has totaled 25 kilometers (22 kilometers in Mondulkiri and 3 kilometers in Ratanakkiri).
• Paving work has been completed over a length of 10.20 kilometers in Mondulkiri province.
