Mekong River Bridge in Kratie Province Approaching Completion

The long-awaited Mekong River Bridge, stretching 1,761 metres, is on the verge of completion, now at 89.84%. Local authorities anticipate the temporary opening to the public in September 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development.

HE Lim Sidenin, Secretary of State and Project Director, provided insights during a recent progress review, emphasizing the project’s critical importance to the area. The entire undertaking includes the bridge itself and a main road extending 15.49 kilometres, alongside four side roads totalling 16.20 kilometres. As of mid-March, about 62.10% of the entire project has been completed, paving the way for enhanced connectivity.

A special ceremony is expected in May 2025 to name the bridge and officially finalize the last connection. This event will be graced by the presence of His Majesty the Prime Minister, highlighting the project’s significance to the nation.

The Mekong River Bridge is a vital link in a major national roadway that connects Kratie province with Kampong Thom Province. It will be a crucial transportation route linking National Road No. 6, National Road No. 7, National Road No. 71, and National Road No. 73.

Financed by the People’s Republic of China, the total cost of the bridge construction project amounts to USD 111 million and is being executed by the Shanghai Construction Group.
