Electric Bus Revolution in Siem Reap: A Step Towards Sustainable Transport

In an exciting development for eco-friendly public transport, Cambodia, in partnership with the Green Development Institute (GGGI), has unveiled plans for an electric bus system in Siem Reap province. The announcement came during the final workshop of the electric bus public transport system study, where three strategic routes and 33 waiting stations were officially designated.

The proposed routes highlight a significant step towards enhancing mobility while promoting sustainable practices within the tourism-heavy region.

Route Highlights:

Route 1: This route kicks off from the Preah Bat Jayavarman VII roundabout (near Samdech Ov High School) and travels along National Road No. 6, terminating at the Phka Romdoul roundabout in Prasat Bakong district.

Route 2: A scenic city ring road route which stretches from the city bypass along Wint Road to the Sihanoukville Road. This route further connects to Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng Street, winding its way back to National Road No. 6.

Route 3: For those seeking a picturesque ride, this route runs parallel to the Siem Reap River, linking the Chong Khneas area to Borey Prem Prai.

The development of this electric bus network has been under consideration since 2021, and GGGI reports a strong feasibility for the project, indicating that it can be implemented effectively and without major hurdles. (Read more)
