Kampot Welcomes New International Tourist Port with Grand Opening Ceremony

The long-awaited Kampot International Tourist Port officially opened today in a ceremony by Prime Minister Hun Manet. This impressive development, valued at USD 10 million, is set to significantly boost the tourism sector in Kampot Province, attracting visitors from both domestic and international markets.

Situated on 4.25 hectares in Chum Kriel Village, Chum Kriel Commune, Teuk Chhou District, the port features a depth of 3 meters from the turning point to the sea surface, along with a 6.75-kilometer-long and 62-meter-wide layout divided into two lanes. These favorable conditions enable vessels carrying up to 300 passengers to dock and depart seamlessly for global destinations.

The port construction forms part of the Tourism Infrastructure Development Project for Inclusive Growth in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, a collaborative effort supported by the Asian Development Bank. Groundbreaking for the project took place on August 8, 2018, with full completion achieved by June 30, 2022, thanks to the expertise of S.B.P.H. Unjinairing & Construction Co., Ltd.

During the inauguration, Samdech Thip Dee emphasized the significance of the Kampot International Tourist Port, highlighting its role as a catalyst for increased tourist traffic to the coastal region and neighboring islands. With its strategic collaborations, the port has previously partnered with Oknha Sour Wirak’s Virak Buntham Company to establish high-speed boat services to nearby countries.

The two companies aim to draw a remarkable 500,000 tourists, both local and international, in 2025, to reach 1 million visitors by 2026. This ambitious plan underscores the port’s potential as a vital hub in Cambodia’s tourism landscape, enhancing the country’s appeal to travelers worldwide. (Read more)
