Japan’s JBIC Eyes Partnership for Major Infrastructure Development in Cambodia

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has showcased a strong interest in collaborating on significant infrastructure projects in Cambodia. This development was announced following a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and JBIC President and CEO Maeda Tadashi on 28 May 2025.

During their discussions, President Maeda emphasized JBIC’s commitment to fostering partnerships with countries across the region and globally. He expressed enthusiasm for exploring potential cooperation avenues in Cambodia, particularly in alignment with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s initiatives for socio-economic growth. Key focus areas identified include energy, infrastructure development, waste management, and clean energy solutions.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed JBIC’s interest, appreciating its potential to enhance key connectivity projects within the country. He encouraged JBIC and its associated companies to engage proactively with Cambodian ministries and institutions, further facilitating discussions that could lead to fruitful investment opportunities.

The Prime Minister expressed a strong belief that this collaboration would significantly accelerate Cambodia’s infrastructure development and contribute to sustainable economic advancement, positioning the nation as a growing hub for investment and innovation in the region.
