Japanese Company MITSUI looks for Investment in Cambodia’s Electric Motorcycle Sector

In a notable development for Cambodia’s electric vehicle market, Japanese company MITSUI has announced its pursuit of investment opportunities, particularly in electric tricycles and motorcycles. This initiative was revealed during a meeting on July 25, 2025, between HE Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and a delegation from MITSUI.

During the discussions, the MITSUI delegation commended Cambodia’s economic advancements, highlighting the potential for collaboration aligned with the country’s governmental priorities and the company’s long-term strategy.

MITSUI, which operates globally in various sectors, including water supply projects across Thailand, the Philippines, and Mexico, expressed keen interest in the burgeoning electric vehicle sector in Cambodia, emphasizing their focus on promoting electric tricycles and motorcycles.

Furthermore, the delegation showcased its successful electric vehicle operations in India, indicating that this model could serve as a valuable reference for future investments in Cambodia’s electric vehicle landscape.

In response to MITSUI’s proposal, Minister Hem Vandy welcomed the investment initiative, stating, “The Royal Government of Cambodia encourages investment in the electric vehicle sector and the development of essential infrastructure, including charging stations.”

Additionally, Minister Vandy underscored the need for long-term, visionary investments in Cambodia’s water sector. He noted, “While investments in this area may take time to yield profits, they represent a stable and secure opportunity. The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to supporting companies with water resources and ensuring a conducive legal and regulatory environment.”

This dialogue marks a significant step in fostering international partnerships and enhancing Cambodia’s reputation as a promising destination for sustainable investments in the electric vehicle sector and critical infrastructure development.
