Kampong Speu Province Targets Five Communes for Innovative Agricultural Project

Kampong Speu provincial authorities have announced the selection of five communes in the Baseth district as the focus for a groundbreaking agricultural initiative aimed at enhancing local farming practices. This effort, known as the Agricultural Wet-Dry (AWD) project, is a collaboration between Thanks Carbon Inc. and the Partnership for Democratic Development (CPDD) Alliance.

During a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) held on August 5, His Excellency Cheam Chansophorn, the Governor of Kampong Speu Province, emphasized the importance of this project in modernizing agricultural techniques in the region. The MOU outlines a shared vision and commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers while adhering to Cambodia’s laws, policies, and legal standards.

“The Agricultural Wet-Dry project represents a significant step forward in harnessing modern technology and innovative methodologies in agriculture,” said Governor Chansophorn. “By focusing on smart agriculture and mechanization, we aim to empower our farmers and elevate agricultural productivity.”

Kampong Speu is recognized for its robust agricultural sector, particularly in rice cultivation, producing over one million tons annually to meet market demand. The selected communes for the AWD project include Por Marel, Iat, Por Chamroeun, Por Angkang, and Preah Kha.

This initiative is expected not only to enhance agricultural output but also to promote sustainable farming practices and improve the overall quality of life for local farmers. As this project unfolds, it stands as a promising example of how innovation can positively impact traditional farming communities in Cambodia.
