Chinese Development Company Eyes Investment in Cambodia’s Agricultural Sector

A delegation from Divelopment Co, Ltd in the People’s Republic of China recently visited Cambodia to explore investment opportunities in the agricultural sector. The meeting, held on August 6, 2025, between H.E. Mang Sinnet, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Government, and Mr. Gao Gu Guang, Vice President of the Chinese company, highlighted the growing interest in Cambodia’s agricultural potential.

Mr. Gao Gu Guang conveyed his enthusiasm for Cambodian agricultural products, particularly rice, durian, mango, and jackfruit, which are favorites among Chinese consumers. He indicated that upon returning to China, he plans to rally investors to explore and invest in Cambodia, with a specific focus on Preah Sihanouk Province.

In his address, HE Mang Sinet welcomed the delegation and elaborated on the province’s promising sectors, including transportation—land, water, and air, which serve as crucial foundations for socio-economic development encompassing trade, industry, and agriculture. He emphasized Sihanoukville’s allure as a popular tourist destination, frequently referred to as the “Rising Star of the Southwest,” which attracts national and international visitors.

The governor also noted the expanding connectivity to China, highlighting the existing direct flights from Sihanoukville to various Chinese provinces. He announced that next month, two additional direct flights will commence, which will further enhance travel options, including a route to Nanjing.

According to a report from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Cambodia approved an impressive 373 new investment projects in the first half of 2025, with a total investment capital of USD 5.8 billion—a staggering 77% increase from previous years. Notably, China has emerged as the leading source of investment in this period, contributing 52.23% of the total investment capital. (Read more)
