Us$70 Million Adb Loan to Develop National Roads No. 1 and 6

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide a US$70 million loan to Cambodia for the improvement and maintenance of National Roads No. 1 and 6 according to a press release by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) dated 13 December, 2018.

The loans, which are divided into three packages, will be used for upgrading National Road No. 1 from kilometre 63 to kilometre 159 from Neak Loeung to Bavet. For National Road No. 6, the project will start from kilometre 317 to kilometre 367 from Siem Reap city to Kralanh. These projects will cover a total road length of 145.58 kilometres.

According to the ministry, this five-year improvement project which will run from 2019 to 2023 is to upgrade National Road No. 1 from DBST to AC while on National Road No. 6 there will be construction of a pipeline on both sides to clear rainwater. These projects will begin construction in January 2019 and run until June 2023.

The ADB loan will also be used for the construction of four construction equipment laboratories in Kratie, Kampot, Siem Reap and Pursat, making it easier to monitor road quality.
