Cambodia’s EV Market on Rise with Nearly 4k EVs & 21 Charging Stations by August 2024

By August 2024, Cambodia recorded 3,676 registered electric vehicles (EVs) and established 21 EV charging stations nationwide, underscoring the country’s growing commitment to the electric mobility sector. HE Peng Po Nea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, disclosed this data during the National Policy Dissemination Workshop on Electric Vehicle Development 2024-2030, held on 18 September 2024.

HE Peng Po Nea highlighted that vehicle usage in Cambodia has surged significantly, particularly in motorcycles and passenger cars. Of the more than 7 million vehicles in circulation, approximately 85% are motorcycles, 10% passenger cars, and 5% heavy-duty trucks, machinery, and other vehicles.

He noted the accelerating adoption of EVs in Cambodia is mirroring a global trend but emphasized that further policy development and stakeholder collaboration are crucial to sustaining this growth.

The Ministry of Public Works sees the expansion of the EV sector as a vital step towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions from traditional fuel vehicles. Cambodia has set ambitious goals to boost the share of electric vehicles to 40% and electric motorcycles to 70% by 2050, contributing to the country’s long-term strategy for carbon neutrality.
