Battambang Province Flourishes with Over 700 Enterprises, Generating 150,000 Jobs

Battambang province boasts a thriving economic landscape, with more than 700 enterprises and 17 factories contributing to the employment of nearly 150,000 individuals as of the first quarter of 2024, according to official data reported by AKP Battambang on 29 March 2024, the province’s economic vitality is underscored by its diverse industrial sectors, including agricultural processing, manufacturing, and more.

Mr. Heng Sith, an official from the Provincial Department of Agriculture, highlighted that Battambang hosts 16 to 17 large factories across Rattanak Mondul and Kamrieng districts, focusing on agricultural product processing. Additionally, ongoing construction projects, such as a fabric factory and several others, signify further industrial growth in the region.

Deputy Governor Mr. Soeum Bunrith emphasised the province’s economic resilience, noting a historical growth rate averaging 7.5% annually over the past decade. However, challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, have led to a temporary slowdown, with the growth rate dipping to 4.8% in 2021. Nonetheless, efforts are underway to rejuvenate the economy and sustain its upward trajectory (Source: AKP).
