Cambodia and Brunei Strengthen Bilateral Tourism Cooperation

In a significant move to enhance tourism collaboration, Cambodia and Brunei have committed to strengthening their bilateral ties in the tourism sector. This decision was reached during a meeting on September 28, 2025, between H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, and DATO DR ABDUL MANAF METUSSIN, Brunei’s Minister of Tourism, held in Malaysia.

Both ministers expressed their intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering tourism cooperation, with plans for the formal signing to take place at the 2026 ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cebu, Philippines. The agreement will focus on advancing technical cooperation and promoting tourism in both nations.

Key points discussed during the meeting included strategies for enhancing marketing efforts for Muslim tourism, showcasing potential tourist destinations in both countries, and establishing direct flight connections to facilitate travel between Cambodia and Brunei.

The commitment to this cooperation comes as Cambodia experiences a notable surge in tourism. In the first eight months of 2025, the country welcomed over 4 million international tourists, alongside 17.28 million domestic visitors, marking a nearly 53% increase from the same period in 2024. This growth was hailed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen during his message for World Tourism Day on September 27, highlighting the importance of tourism in Cambodia’s economic recovery.
