Cambodia and China Strengthen Agricultural Trade Ties

In a significant move to enhance agricultural cooperation, a delegation from Yunnan Province, China, has agreed to a proposal by Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries aimed at expanding agricultural trade between the two regions. This agreement was reached during a meeting between H.E. Prak David, Secretary of State of the Ministry, and Mr. Wang Xiangang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Government.

During his visit to Cambodia, Mr. Wang emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that it seeks to promote agricultural cooperation and boost trade between Yunnan Province and Cambodia. He expressed his full support for the Cambodian Ministry’s proposal, which outlines steps for expanding trade relations.

H.E. Prak David welcomed the visit and highlighted the fruitful agricultural partnership between Cambodia and China, particularly with Yunnan Province. He underscored the vast potential for growth in agricultural trade and research, encouraging the Yunnan delegation to attract Chinese investors in sectors such as processing and exporting Cambodian agricultural products. These efforts are expected to leverage opportunities available through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and other trade frameworks to foster economic growth in both nations.

Furthermore, H.E. Prak David called on the Yunnan delegation to assist in facilitating transportation logistics for Cambodian agricultural exports to China via land and high-speed rail routes through Laos, a move that could significantly streamline trade processes.

According to a recent report from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), China has emerged as the largest source of foreign investment in the country during the first half of 2025, accounting for over 52% of total investment capital. This robust investment landscape further solidifies the economic ties between Cambodia and China, paving the way for enhanced collaboration in various sectors, particularly agriculture.

As the two countries continue to strengthen their agricultural trade relations, experts anticipate that this partnership will not only benefit local farmers in Cambodia but also contribute to sustainable economic growth for both nations.
